Why this Speedster?
With its mid-engine layout, low seating position, and direct steering, every kilometre is a celebration. The adjustable dampers let you choose: taut comfort for the street or extra sharp for your favourite driver’s road. The low weight translates into agility and braking confidence; the car feels lively, communicative, and engaging—exactly what you want from a purist sports car.
Brief model history
The Opel Speedster (sold in the UK as the Vauxhall VX220) was built between 2000 and 2005 by Lotus in Hethel (UK) on a variant of the Lotus Elise Series 2 aluminium chassis. The project was a collaboration between General Motors and Lotus; as a result, the Speedster inherited the Elise DNA (lightweight, rigid, pure) with its own design and powertrains. In total, around 7,200 units (Opel + Vauxhall combined) were produced—making it rare and an emerging modern classic. Its handling is renowned for kart-like agility, razor-sharp steering feel, and neutrality at speed—precisely the traits that make the Speedster so beloved by enthusiasts.
