Lancia Beta Coupé 1300 – exceptional originality and Italian elegance
Lancia is one of the great names in Italian motoring history. Founded in 1906, the marque built its reputation on technically advanced cars in which elegance, comfort and innovation always played an important role.
At the beginning of the 1970s, Lancia introduced the Beta, the first completely new model developed after Fiat took control of the company in 1969. The Beta marked the start of a new generation of front-wheel-drive Lancias and soon became available in several body styles. Among them, the Coupé was the sportier and more elegant interpretation of the range.
The 1300 Coupé joined the line-up in the mid-1970s and, in many ways, continued the spirit of the celebrated Fulvia Coupé. With its compact dimensions, lively 1.3-litre engine and well-balanced chassis, it offered the typical combination of refinement, comfort and engaging road manners for which Lancia was known.
This 1977 example, however, is far more than simply a nice Beta Coupé.
The car was delivered new in Italy and remained there until only a few years ago. For many years it was owned by its first lady owner, who clearly cherished and preserved the car with exceptional care.
The result today is quite remarkable.
The body is completely rust-free and the car still wears its original first paint. The interior and the many original details have also been beautifully preserved. This is not a restored car that has been brought back to look correct, but an exceptionally well-conserved original example that has survived almost five decades in outstanding condition.
The beautiful beige exterior perfectly suits the typical 1970s interior and gives the car a warm, elegant and unmistakably Italian character. Everything about this Lancia reflects authenticity and quality.
That is precisely what makes this car so special today. Many classic cars have been restored, modified or rebuilt over the years. To find a Beta Coupé that remains so original, rust-free and beautifully preserved is becoming increasingly difficult.
On the road, it is easy to understand why the Beta was so highly regarded in period. The combination of front-wheel drive, relatively low weight, a responsive engine and a comfortable suspension gives the car a surprisingly refined and enjoyable driving experience. It feels light, smooth and elegant, and remains a classic that can genuinely be enjoyed on the road.
For the enthusiast looking not simply for a Lancia Beta, but for an example of exceptional quality and originality, this is a very rare opportunity.
A beautiful Italian cult coupé that not only represents an important chapter in Lancia history, but also demonstrates just how special an unrestored classic can be when it has been cared for properly throughout its life.
